Smokey Bear is recognized by 97% of adults, and 3 out of 4 adults are able to recall Smokey’s message of “Only You Can Prevent Wildfires” without prompting.  His message of wildfire prevention is the center of one of the most successful PSA campaigns in our nation’s history.

  • This 65th birthday cake commercial on TV of Smokey is the MOST IRRESPONSIBLE "ad" that I believe I have ever seen. Example: 1st- No one, not even or especially a furry creature should put out a flame of ANY size with you fingers!. I can no longer feel comfortable with a candle of any kind with my granddaughter here. For fear that she will see this commercial, try to be like Smokey, but catching herself on fire instead. Maybe she will have long sleeves on...? Then does she catch the couch and curtains, then the house on fire? What's next? The forest? YES! Only Smokey could have prevented this! Right? 2nd-I was raised in a proud "Fire Fighter" household! Smokey the Bear was and still is a promenent figure in my family home. IF any of us kids were caught touching a flame or tampering with fire...We got a spanking! WE LEARNED! Again, I feel this commercial is offensive and if you think about it, it has the opposite effect of your intention. 3rd-It would make such a bigger impression if Smokey would please do as we have taught our children, to BLOW out our birhday candles, or for his commercial, go over the top and dump a bucket of water on it!.
